Muir has a reputation for high quality, modern and superior performing products designed for reliability and long term use, and this has assisted in competing in overseas markets. 

Muir was the first to design and manufacture complete mega-yacht windlasses and systems from stainless steel.  Muir is one of only three manufacturers in the world making equipment in stainless steel and only one of two doing so to suit yachts up to 150 metres.  Muir's innovation and ability was  recognized by the awarding of a substantial grant from Ausindustry to develop a range of mega yacht windlasses fabricated from stainless steel versus castings, putting Muir at the leading edge in the international market.

The value of these products for the market (particularly the mega / super yacht industry) is that these still have the mechanical functionality of a winch system but because of the material used (stainless steel) it is extremely hard wearing and also maintains it high polish luxury yacht finish for years and years (decades if well looked after. This has the desired effect of providing a solid mechanical working part that also looks aesthetically pleasing to the people using them.

It is stronger and harder wearing so warranty issued become less as well.

Maintenance also become easier as the stainless steel is able to be cleaned with "basic" cleaners whereas chrome bronze equipment requires specialized cleaners and should they be treated by the wrong cleaners it can affect the integrity of the chrome and will ultimately need re-work.
