Muir gets behind Australian circumnavigation for Parkinson’s

Poppy Moore will circumnavigate Australia to raise money for Parkinson’s NSW, with Muir Winches pleased to offer support.

Sailor Poppy Moore will this year circumnavigate Australia and Muir Winches is pleased to offer its support in the form of equipment.

Undertaking the 12-month attempt on her yacht, Scaramouch, Moore is aiming to raise $12,000 for Parkinson’s NSW following her father's Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2006.
Tasmanian-headquartered Muir is pleased to get behind Moore’s efforts, with Poppy choosing the Muir Storm VRC 850 as her anchor winch. The company is looking forward to following her journey and continuing to promote the attempt to reach her fundraising goal.

“Since 1968 Muir has supported the Australian boating and sailing community. We really appreciate Poppy’s offer to work with Muir for this very worthwhile cause and I ask all Muir customers and friends to support Poppy and help her exceed her fundraising goal,” says Muir sales general manager, Michael Corfield.

Scaramouch has just been fitted with the VRC 850, which is designed to be robust, easy to operate and reliable, in Moore’s starting point of Sydney.

Features, including a quick release integrated swivel chain pipe cover, quick fit adaptor, and heavy duty marine grade motor, all add to the suitability of the winch for a solo sailor at sea. Now in its 49th year of operation Muir’s products have a reputation for longevity, practical performance and quality

“I chose Muir as they are an Australian company and they were highly recommended by the shipwrights that I have been using to fit-out the boat. I have full confidence in Muir to provide a high-quality product that won't let me down (though which will let the anchor down!),” says Moore.

Moore has undergone training equivalent to that required for a Sydney to Hobart race, and is aiming to set sail on March 30. She says she’s looking for people to join her on different legs of the attempt and is pleased that her father will be able to follow her journey remotely.

Extensive and ongoing research and development, a newly-installed 3D ceramic printer for product prototyping and a dedicated design team mean that Muir’s recreational marine products combine cutting-edge innovation with the reliability Muir is renowned for.
